Impermanence Heron Boss Guide

WuWa. Impermanence Heron Wuthering Waves Boss Guide. Mechanics.

The open world version of Impermanence Heron can be found in Desorock Highland. The hologram version can be found in Wuming Bay.

Reward Gold-Dissolving Feather

EchoMoonlit Clouds– Transform and perform a smash attack for Havoc Damage after flying into the air. Hold the key to stay in the air longer and spray fire beneath you. If any attack lands, grant the current character 10 Resonance Energy and the if they Outro within 15 seconds, the next character gains 12% damage boost for 15 seconds.

This guide will show mechanics based on the Hologram Challenge VI, which may be different to other versions of this boss.

Before you take on this boss, there are some preparations you can make:

  • Impermanence Heron is resistant to Havoc Damage, avoid using a Havoc DPS character.
  • Make sure your Grappling Hook utility is equipped to avoid the fire mechanic.
  • Bring more stagger capabilities through fast Concerto to break their defensive stance.

Special Mechanism

When fighting the Hologram boss, there are some extra effects at higher difficulties. At difficulty 5 and higher you will want to keep these in mind.

  • When there is less than 2 minutes left on the timer, the boss will start doing much more damage.
  • When hit by the boss, characters lose DEF.
  • Echo Counter Skills will deplete more stagger after countering the Special Skill. This includes the Rocksteady Guardian, Cyan-Feathered Heron, or Lumiscale Construct Echo Skills and the Special Skill Combo mentioned at the end of this guide.

Mechanics

Havoc Bane Effect – Many of Impermanence Heron’s attacks will apply a debuff to you if they hit. This can stack twice at which point it will deal Havoc damage to you while spreading the effect. Dodge attacks to avoid the effect stacking.

Dive Bomb – After flying high into the sky, Impermanence Heron will land on the ground very quickly. You may not be able to easily see when to dodge due to the camera positioning so you can lock-on with the Middle Mouse Button or manually turn your camera upwards.

Pull Peck – After leaping to one side of the room, the boss will begin pulling anything nearby towards it. The pull will persist for several seconds or until you are next to the Heron. If you do get pulled next to the boss, it will begin with two peck attacks, then do a third slightly after, and then it will jump and leap for a fourth peck.

You can run away from the pull to avoid triggering the Peck if you really want, but running behind the boss before or during the Pull will delay the boss while you can freely attack it.

Feather Daggers – After Impermanence Heron covers itself with its wings and they begin glowing, it will open its wings and shoot feathers at you. Move away from the boss to get more time to dodge these projectiles. This attack will always be followed by a charging Parry, so bring out a character that can easily Parry during this.

Charge Parry – Yellow circles will appear after the boss begins accelerating for a charge attack. Parrying this will prevent it from doing another round of this attack and give you some time to deal damage.

Defense Mode – When Impermanence Heron gets close to having its stagger bar depleted, it will lay on the ground and cover itself with its wings. During this time you can freely attack the boss, but after several seconds it will recover a large portion of its stagger bar. Be sure to use all your damage combos and character Intro/Outro Skills to be able to push the bar all the way and cause the stagger. If you manage to stagger the boss, they will enter phase 2 with some new abilities.

After staggering the boss or reaching ~70% health, Phase 2 begins

Feather Bombs – Immediately after recovering from the stagger, the boss will shoot many feathers on the ground. These can hurt a bit when they land, but they will explode shortly after. Sprint away from these, they cannot be dodged but Intro skills can avoid them. Jumping can work if you use the grappling hook early, but if you’re stuck in another animation you won’t have time. Swapping to another character to soak the damage of this attack is the most reliable way to handle this. A supportive character or someone who isn’t on field often can use their health pool as a resource to deal with this mechanic.

NOTE: These feathers will occur all throughout the fight on difficulty VI, but you can predict when they will happen because it is after every time Heron uses attacks that slam the ground like the Dive Bomb or the final part of the Pull Peck mechanic. Prepare an Intro skill or run away after the mechanics that always precede a Feather Bomb.

Flame Breath – Avoid the fire on the ground by using the Grappling Hook, then dodging once to get a bit more height, and then gliding until it is safe to land. During this attack, the boss becomes untargetable, so you will need to lock on again afterwards if you wish to do so.

Flame Circle – Impermanence Heron will create a wide circle of Purple Flames. This area can pull you towards the boss and will become deadly soon. Dodge right after the flames turn red.

Special Skill Combo – Near the end of the fight, the boss will do its special attack with two key animations that tell you it’s coming. First the boss will lift its wings in the air and begin screeching. Then they will fly into the air and you can see a red light flash from their eyes. Next begins a series of dashes at you, but unlike the other attack like this you cannot Parry it. There are three dashes in total that you must dodge.

NOTE: This can be interrupted by an Echo skill, stopping every subsequent attack in the entire combo. Echo skills that prevent Special Skills such as the Rocksteady Guardian, Cyan-Feathered Heron, or Lumiscale Construct can be used to Parry this attack and fully counter it.
