Overview

This version of Ranger Soulbeast is balanced between a very good damage output and good sustain with the ability to survive most situations. It is very robust and great for beginners while still having plenty of skill cap.

Synergy

The Beast Mastery and Wilderness Survival trait lines grant plenty of sustain to this build.

Condition cleanses come from the Wilderness Knowledge trait, which whenever you use a survival utility skill you cleanse 2 conditions. Troll Unguent counts as two survival skills because it has a passive Lesser Muddy Terrain that is also a survival, and also merging gives Lesser Quickening Zephyr which counts as another survival skill.

Playstyle

Merging with the Smokescale allows aggressive burst combos with a good port to target from long range, which can be combined with the Greatsword for a lot of damage. Maul is the hardest hitting attack and boosts the damage of your next attack if you are merged, so it can be precasted into a Wordly Impact or refreshed with Hilt Bash.

Make sure to always use “Sic ‘Em” while merged so that your pet does not get the damage buff, but rather that you do. Use this during your bursts for heavy damage modifiers.

After using all of the Smokescale burst skills, you can unmerge and use the F2 of the Smokescale as a smoke field and leap through it with Swoop for stealth. This allows you to reposition to use your Longbow at range.

Cast Barrage while in stealth from combos or from Hunter’s Shot to cover yourself because you must stand still to cast it. On large groups this does plenty of damage for a long duration. Rapid Fire is your main burst in longbow, so try to land it after landing your Point Blank Shot or after baiting their cooldowns and dodges.

  1. I know this is an older thread, and I’m not quite sure why I noticed it this time around but I wanted to mention in the last paragraph you mention Hunters Mark which is a Guard DH Longbow skill. Which I’ll grant you is technically correct.. if I saw a few people locked down from baby gates it would be a great time for Barrage! 🙂 I suspect you may have meant Entangle which you have listed in this build. I actually had forgotten that effect was called Hunters Mark from LB 5 in DH until I /wiki’d it. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Hunter%27s_Mark

  2. Hey i was wondering if sic em can be uaed on this build also? This is more pf a durable build with less dmg then the other build? What is the best roaming choice for a newer roamer ?

    • Yes this is the best choice for a new roamer, you can replace Lightning reflexes for Sic Em with the exact same build. This build have more sustain than the other.
