GW2. A complete guide on how to get your Legendary Armor from Ranked PvP. PvP 2023.
Getting Started
In this guide I will cover everything you need to know and the process to make a full legendary armor set for PvP. I believe at this point you are already aware that gear doesn’t matter in PvP but by playing the game you are allowed to get gear to be ready for other game modes like PvE and WvW. This method may not be as interesting as other options for players who play other game modes more often, but if you can spare the time to make progress towards time-gated elements, you can combine it with different methods, like Raids, or WvW. So even if you don’t want to invest enough to get the full PvP armor, it’s basically the same destination with a different journey.
However, PvP Legendary Armor, like WvW Legendary Armor, does not have an unique skin. Only the version obtained from Raids will have the morphing combat skins, but if you love theorycrafting and having options to adapt, the convenience of legendary armor infinite stat and upgrade swapping functionality is there.
Be aware that due to time-gated limitations getting a full set of legendary armor from PvP can take 24 weeks. This is because you need a total of 300 PvP League Tickets and you can earn only a maximum of 100 per ranked season. However with the introduction of mini-seasons you can earn 35 PvP League Tickets, reducing the number to 20-22 weeks.
I will organize this guide into 4 steps, one for each major gift you will at the end place in the Mystic Forge. At first I will detail all the account bound or time-gated requirements that you will need eventually so you can be prepared and optimize your journey to be as efficient as possible.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The process described on this guide (Step 1 to 4) is to make ONE piece of the armor set, you will need to repeat the process a total of SIX times for each piece.
Account Bound Requirements
Before starting the process to make your legendary armor set, you need to know which things you can’t buy with gold and how to optimize your time to avoid coming up short when you think you are ready to finish it.
NOTE: The quantity of each item listed here correspond to the amount needed for all SIX pieces of armor.
- PvP League Tickets
As mentioned before, these tickets are the time-gated component for the legendary armor. A total of 300 tickets are needed and by the season cap of 100, it will take 24 weeks (because a ranked conquest season lasts 2 months). You have to complete the Byzantium chest of the PvP League Reward Track (Pips rewards) to earn the maximum of 100 per season, which will need a total of 670 pips to reach. If you play mini-seasons too, you can earn 35 PvP League Tickets per season (mini-seasons lasts 2 weeks), reducing the time to 20-22 weeks total.
Because the PvP League Tickets will take the majority of the time required to getting legendary armor from PvP, it’s best that you get settled in and understand the game mode to enjoy it. Some people will do the very minimum to keep gaining pips and then end up having a bad impression of PvP. Don’t expect this to be easy to do if you’re only motivated by the reward. However, some people end up enjoying PvP because they got into it for the reward and ended up staying. They get tickets unintentionally because they play for fun and can build legendaries whenever they want.
- Ascended Shards of Glory
Besides the Tickets, you will need Ascended Shards of Glory to buy a component called Star of Glory and the Ascended Ardent Glorious armor Set that you will need to use as precursor. You obtain these shards in the same way as tickets but without limitations, because the Byzantium chest of the PvP League Reward Track (Pips rewards) once it’s completed it becomes repeatable and as long you keep playing you can earn as many as you want, of course only during the time a season is active. You will need a total of 3600 Ascended Shards of Glory.
- Mist Core Fragment
Each piece will need a Mist Core Fragment, and you can only obtain this from the Glorious Armor Box, which is the final reward on the Glorious Reward Track, you will get one by default but you can choose an extra one. In other words you will need to complete the track a total of THREE times to get every piece.
- Mystic Clover
A total of 90 Mystic Clover are needed, each piece requires 15. You can obtain these clovers from the following sources:
- Mystic Clover
- Mystic Forge (30% chance approx)
- 10 Obsidian Shard
- 10 Mystic Coin
- 10 Glob of Ectoplasm
- 10 Mystic Crystal (Purchased from Miyani)
- Daily Login Reward (Day 28)
- Chest of Legendary Crafting Materials (7 clovers)
- BUY-4373 Fractal Vendor (2 per day)
- 150 Fractal Relic
- 1 Mystic Coin
- 3 Glob of Ectoplasm
- 2 Spirit Shards
- WvW/PvP Reward Track
- Repeatable: 2 clovers per container
- Non-Repeatable: 7 or more clovers per container
- Grothmar Valley Reward Track (9 clovers)
- Bjora Marches Reward Track (11 clovers)
- Drizzlewood Coast Reward Track (14 clovers)

- Gift of Fangs
- Gift of Scales
- Gift of Claws
- Gift of Bones
- Gift of Condensed Magic
- Gift of Blood
- Gift of Venom
- Gift of Totems

Finally you have to combine again in the Mystic Forge these 2 gifts recently created with Mystic Clovers and a Mist Core Fragment
- Gift of Competitive Prosperity
- Gift of Condensed Might
- Gift of Condensed Magic
- Mist Core Fragment
- 15 Mystic Clover
Step 2: Gift of Competitive Prowess
Gift of Competitive Prowess is the first time-gated gift, for this you will need to use 30 PvP League Tickets. The process to make this gift is easy enough, simply put in the Mystic Forge the following items:
- Gift of Competitive Prowess
- Record of League Victories
- Purchased from Ascended Armor League Vendor in Heart of the Mists for 30 PvP League Tickets
- Eldritch Scroll
- Purchased from Miyani or any Mystic Forge Attendant for 50 Spirit Shards
- 50 Obsidian Shard
- Purchased for or converted from various currencies
- Acquired from PvP Reward Tracks and WvW Reward Tracks
- Acquired from Chest of Legendary Crafting Materials login reward (Day 28)
- Cube of Stabilized Dark Energy (Requires level 500 crafting discipline)
- Ball of Dark Energy (Chance from Ascended gear salvaging)
- 75 Stabilizing Matrix
- Record of League Victories
Step 3: Gift of Competitive Dedication
Gift of Competitive Dedication is a gift made with PvP currency and it’s the second time-gated gift. You will need PvP League Tickets and Ascended Shards of Glory. Put in the Mystic Forge the following items:
- Gift of Competitive Dedication
- Record of League Participation
- Purchased from Ascended Armor League Vendor in Heart of the Mists for 20 PvP League Tickets
- Glob of Condensed Spirit Energy
- Purchased from Ascended Armor League Vendor in Heart of the Mists for 100 Spirit Shards
- Star of Glory
- Purchased from Ascended Armor League Vendor in Heart of the Mists for 400 Ascended Shards of Glory
- Jar of Distilled Glory
- Purchased from Ascended Armor League Vendor in Heart of the Mists for 1000 Shard of Glory (cheap to buy them from Trading Post)
- Record of League Participation
Step 4: Precursor and Forge
As mentioned in the beginning, the precursor is an ascended piece of Ardent Glorious armor. You can buy each piece from the Ascended Armor League Vendor, this will cost Ascended Shards of Glory:
- Helmet – 150 Ascended Shards of Glory
- Shoulder – 150 Ascended Shards of Glory
- Coat – 400 Ascended Shards of Glory
- Gloves – 150 Ascended Shards of Glory
- Pants – 200 Ascended Shards of Glory
- Boots – 150 Ascended Shards of Glory
Once you are able to buy each piece, you will notice the cost includes 2 Gold, 250 Shards of Glory and 3 or 4 Grandmaster Marks.
These marks can be obtained from Box of Grandmaster Marks, which you can earn as rewards while you completing the pip chests each season, however you are limited to only get 3 per season.
The other way to obtain these Grandmaster Marks, is through crafting, you will need to buy the recipes to unlock them and a level 500 crafting discipline to make them. Buying these recipes will cost you extra PvP League Tickets and you can get them by other sources with different currency as well, like for example from WvW.
NOTE: It is recommended that you do not attempt to stat change your precursor item with the standard stat swap recipe in the Mystic Forge. While you will be provided with an item with the desired stats, it will have been replaced with a generic ascended item that cannot be used as a legendary precursor.
NOTE: It takes 1,200 Ascended Shards of Glory in total to obtain a full ascended set of Ardent Glorious Ascended Armor.
Mistforged Alternative
As alternative you can also use the Mistforged Glorious Hero’s armor, which is a version visually similar but with a glowing animation.
To be able to buy these pieces of armor, you have to previously unlock the ascended (or exotic) Ardent Glorious armor and a minimum of PvP Rank 100.
NOTE: It takes extra 1,200 Ascended Shards of Glory to unlock a full set of Mistforged Glorious Hero’s armor.
But of course, one of the main appeals of the Mistforged version, is the visual effect of the chest piece when wielded (the tentacles effect).
Forge Time
Once you have the piece that you want to upgrade, it’s time to use the Mystic Forge again, and this is the final combination to make it legendary:
- Gift of Competitive Prosperity
- Gift of Competitive Prowess
- Gift of Competitive Dedication
- Ascended Ardent Glorious armor piece
Congratulations, now you have a Legendary Armor piece.
Recomendations
I recommend if you want more details on some item acquisitions check out this LINK from the wiki. Also if you need more organization in following the craft progress by taking into consideration items that you might have before going shopping in the Trading Post, use the GW2Efficiency crafting tool.

Thank you for this clearly laid-out guide 🙂
Hey i have only one question is there achievements related to this armor like Envoy for raids or you just craft it right away as in the guide above?
No achievements, only the raid armor have achievements.
Thanks for the fast reply JEN love your videos <3
Which is total baloney because Raid Schmaid … c’mon, humans are harder to beat.
Do i need to be good in pvp or just keep playing even tho i suck but still enoying it more than WvW + can i play with alt ? my main is rev and would like to play with mirage if its possible. Thank you for answering
You can play with any character, and you progress and get currency even if your team lose, it just takes a bit longer
Hi Jen,
I got 3 pieces of the ascendant armor and I had changed the stats at misticforge. Will that affect me getting legendary piece?
Thank you
Yes, sadly you can’t use them as precursor anymore, because the forge transform them in another item by changing the stats, but don’t worry I have been there, I did the same mistake and if you send a ticket to customer support they will help you.
do i have to do all the gifts of competitive for each piece of armor?
Yes, the process is per piece.
Thank you so much for this guide! Just completed my set today!!
Do I have to buy precursor before mysticdorged
You can use the mystic forge whenever you want to make the Gifts you need, but to use the forge the final time, to create the legendary armor, you will need the precursor
Jen, thanks for the guide, it is excellent.
I think you may want to mention the shear gold cost of making a piece set.
Gift of Competitive Prosperity runs about 170G per piece (+80G recipes)
Gift of Competitive Prowess runs about 25G per piece
Gift of Competitive Dedication runs about 20G per piece
To complete 6 pieces you looking at roughly 1400G. Reading the guide, it wasn’t obvious there would be 1400G investment + all the PvP currency. + Clovers … etc.
