Tempest Mephis Wuthering Waves Boss Guide

WuWa. Tempest Mephis Wuthering Waves Boss Guide.

The open world version of Tempest Mephis can be found in the Central Plains. The hologram version can be found southeast of Port City Guixu.

Reward Hidden Thunder Tacet Core

EchoElectro – Transform and perform a tail swing then a claw attack. If the claw attack hits, increase the current character’s Electro and Heavy Attack Damage by 12% for 15 seconds.

This guide will show mechanics based on the Hologram Challenge IV, which may be different to other versions of this boss.

Before you take on this boss, there are some preparations you can make:

  • Tempest Mephis is resistant to Electro Damage, avoid using an Electro DPS character
  • Parry is important because of how many opportunities it gives you to Parry, and in harder difficulties it will desummon the clone. Bring easy to parry characters

Mechanics

Electro Flare Effect – Many of Tempest Mephis’ attacks will apply a debuff to you if they hit. This can stack a number of times for a more intense effect. At four stacks or less, it reduces your ATK by 5%, at 5 or more stacks your ATK is reduced by 7% and you move slower, and at maximum of 10 stacks your ATK is reduced by 10%.

Use the lock-on targeting (Middle Mouse Button) when fighting Tempest Mephis because it moves around so fast and will still exist even when it seems to have disappeared. You can still hit the boss by attacking where the target icon shows.

Beam – Mephis raises their hand where a dark red area appears. Shortly after they will fire a beam. Dodge sideways or jump over the attack.

Parry Mechanics – There are many potential Parry attempts during this boss fight. Be prepared to Parry every few seconds. In general you want to Parry because it allows you more time to deal damage and it can stop some of the mechanics, but if you get caught in the middle of an animation when you need to Parry a dodge will suffice most of the time. The timing of each Parry should be to hit during their attack when the yellow circles converge.

Dash Parry – Mephis will dash to the left and then to the right. After the second dash, the next attack will depend on your range to the boss. If close to the boss, it will do an uppercut. If far away it will do a rush attack. You want to be close to the boss during this because the uppercut is easier to Parry.

Leap Parry – Like the previous mechanic, Tempest Mephis will start this attack by dashing to the left, but instead of dashing right they will charge through you with lightning speed and then leap into the sky to land on you at which point you can Parry. Dodge Cancel your parry if necessary because the timing can get very close.

It is important to distinguish between the Leap Parry and Dash Parry because it will change the timing you need to react. Looking for where the arms of the boss are after the first dash will tell you which.

Arms Spread – Wait for another dash and get close to Parry

Arms Together – Dodge now and prepare to Parry

Surround Slash – At first a large purple ring will surround the boss. When the color turns red, you need to dodge and get the evade frame or a wide slashing attack will hit you from all angles.

Tail Swipe > Claw Attack – The first attack in this two part chain is a tail swipe that will cause lightning to hit the ground in a line towards you. Afterwards a claw attack occurs which you can Parry. Dodge through or move to the side of the tail swipe, then prepare to Parry.

Spin Parry – After rising into the sky, the boss will begin spinning towards you. The timing to Parry this is one of the easier ones because of how predictable and fluid the movement of the boss is. Focus on hitting the boss slightly before it hits you.

There are more Parry mechanics throughout the fight, but they just need timing.

Sky Fall – During this attack the boss will disappear into the sky. If you have it targeted with the lock-on, you can see more clearly what is happening. The boss eventually reappears above you and then falls down to do a large lightning attack after a few seconds. Look for when the boss reappears for the right dodge timing.

Clone – On hologram difficulty IV and up, there will be a clone that spawns, performing the same attacks that the boss does, but often staggered. This scales up the amount of animations you need to watch and dodge quite a bit, but it can also help you because there are more things you dodge and get evade frames from. Just dodge the clone, don’t worry about Parrying it since you want to focus the boss. Here is where the lock-on targeting comes in handy again.

Parrying the boss, however, will desummon the clone. If you can’t because you’re under too much pressure, just spam dodges. Sometimes the clone will be doing an attack right before or after Mephis and you’ll need to decide which one will hit first and try to dodge that, but since it will reset your dodge when you get the first evade frame you can just dodge the second afterwards. Be aware that while the boss is staggered the clone can still perform attacks, but you can get some free Dodge Counters from the clone. As long as you stay aggressive and keep parrying, the fight becomes much easier.
