GW2. Best Open World Build. Celestial Firebrand Open World. Guardian PvE.
Last Update: September 2024
- Boon for group events: Quickness
The Celestial Firebrand is a guardian build for Open World that versatile, performing well solo or with a group. With a wide array of tools it allows you to share many boons (including permanent quickness), provide healing to others, and deal hybrid damage while having a very decent self sustain.
As a Firebrand, you can access tomes for new sets of skills which use Tome Pages as a resource. The F1 tome deals damage, the F2 tome heals and cleanses, and the F3 tome provides protection and boons. Due to the trait Swift Scholar you want to use three skills (regardless of their tome page cost) in each tome before leaving in order to gain an extra tome page back. For this reason you want to use no more or less than 3 skills, except for emergency (for example Skill #4 in F3 Tome is a stun break).
Most of the time you want to use the F1 Tome to do damage, but in some situations you might need the others, so use the tomes as 3-skill combos, some examples:
- F1 Tome: 5 > 4 > 2
- F2 Tome: 4 > 3 > 2/1
- F3 Tome: Use only one skill due to their high costs
Axe and Torch is the main weapon set for this build, the priority is to use Torch 4 whenever, then the 2 symbol and 3/5 to fill in the gaps.
Use the mantras off cooldown for permanent burning and quickness. Greatsword is a secondary weapon as utility, useful to pull and cleave groups of enemies or to burst low health mobs.

Can full dire set work with this?
that would be better with a burn dragonhunter build, firebrand really wants hybrid stats
Could Balthazar rune be used instead of firework?
yeah im also wondering that
I mean you can, but it’s not good because celestial + balthazar will overcap the burning duration, you are basically wasting resources (the limit is 100% duration) but if you still want is not that bad especially for open world. If you want another option for more condition damage you can try Renegade rune
what about traveler runes?
You can yes.
can i use staff in fractals?
Sure you can
Hi, what orange equipment can be used instead of celestial, I’m new to GW2 and can’t have celestial gear yet, thank you!
can trailblazer works with this build?
It could yes, but would be worst
Tried this build
Struggle doing champion HOT hps
I got almost all 80s
Dont struggle on champs so much with my Vindi/Mech/Mirage/Bladesworn/Necro
Only guardian always dying
What am I doing wrong
Just look at the gameplay videos and try to reverse engineer it.
Is this is still valid to the most recent update?
Yes up to date
Worked great! just tested with my freshly new boosted Guardian. Thank you!
First of all, as a fellow Celebrand player I also agree with the traitline choices. Honor is such a perfect alternative to Virtues in Open World. However, I have 3 things I want to mention here:
– 1: While “Relic of the Fractal” will help boost DPS (axe has enough sources of Bleed to proc it, thankfully), the new “Relic of the River” may be a better alternative, as you also gain up to 100% alac uptime thanks to the Honor Traitline. That weapon switching less mandatory (with the tradeoff that dodging becomes more mandatory).
– 2: Personally, I prefer running “Mantra of Liberation” as the Elite Skill, with “Purging Flame” replacing “Stand Your Ground”. That does boost our damage and gives us an extra way to cleanse condis as well without needing the weaponswap.
– 3: Due to the changes to Mantras (we no longer need to recast them in combat in PvE), we can use the last charge of Mantra of Potence and get quite high uptime. With full exotics and Travelers Runes, as shown in your build, we get ~16/20 uptime for quickness via Mantra of Potence alone. Either Alacrity (see point 1) or using the heal skill whenever you hop from 1 charges to 2 should allow us to patch this up to 100%. This allows us to open up Stallward Speed, changing it to Weighty Terms, giving us more Tome Pages to burn in the books as needed. If you go the Alacrity Route as mentioned in Point 1, you even free up “Liberator’s Vow” to select “Unrelenting Criticism” instead.
Hey! What do you think about using Viper Weapons instead of cele? Assuming everything else stays celestial of course
