The DPS Holosmith is an engineer build for WvW zerging that uses the wide range of the Flamethrower Flame Jet and the Photon Forge skills to dish out tons of damage in larger fights. It also has decent mobility built into the Photon Leap so it can keep up with the group or weave in and out of risky positioning unlike other more static DPS builds.

Your most damaging skills are the Photon Forge 3 Corona Burst which is a wide AoE around you, and the Flamethrower 1 which is a wide cone in front of you. They are reliable damage mostly because they can be used consistently with very low or no cooldown. Rifle 5 and 2 can be used for more burst damage combos, and Prime Light Beam or Laser Disk can be used when above 50 Heat to get more pulsing damage to remove enemy aegis or blinds.

There are three different rotations you should learn to handle the situations you’ll encounter: Heating Up is before you engage with the enemy when you want to prepare your big damage, Bursting is using the Overheat mechanic with as many AoEs as possible, and Cooling Down after your Overheat burst and you want to keep pressure while handling the loss of your tool belt and forge.

When Heating Up: Use Forge abilities prioritizing the Corona Burst 3 off cooldown. Stop using Forge skills and leave the Photon Forge right before your heat maxes if your team is not ready to engage. Use Rifle or Flamethrower 1 in the mean time.

When ready to Burst: Cast Laser Disk, Enter Forge and use the 2 and 3 to push your heat over the limit while you engage. Then use Rifle 5 and 2 to leap during the delay before your Overheat is about to explode. Use Prime Light Beam before or after leaping in, but make sure to leap in during the Overheat.

Note: Even though the Rifle 5 has an evade, it may be too dangerous to engage in melee range, using the Elixir S can allow you to safely get in range to Overheat.

When Cooling Down: Keep using the Flamethrower 1 if your team is continuing to push, or back off and use the Med Kit 5 > 3 > 4 to cleanse and heal yourself. Overheating can be risky to your health.
