Honor of the Waves Dungeon Guide

GW2. Dungeon Guide Honor of the Waves. A complete guide on how to complete Honor of the Waves Dungeon. Story and Explorable mode. All paths.

Getting There

Enter Honor of the Waves from the dungeon entrance at Honor of the Waves Waypoint – [&BEMFAAA=] in Frostgorge Sound or by talking to the Dungeon Transportation NPC south of Fort Marriner Waypoint – [&BDAEAAA=] in Lion’s Arch.

While this dungeon is soloable by a well-geared level 80, it can be quite a challenge and it is recommended to bring at least 2-3 players for this.

Story Mode

  • Honor of the Waves Story Mode is for players level 76 and up. Completing this will unlock Explorable mode which is for players level 80 and up. You can do explorable mode without having done Story Mode, but at least one person in the group must have completed Story Mode to open an Explorable Path.
  • Begin by attacking the Ice Spike, the icebrood and elementals can be taken out to relieve pressure, but they will keep coming so long as the ice spike is there. However, the ice spike can shoot out frost shards which knock you, so keep your distance while handling it.
  • Climb the stairs and take out the icebrood wolves, being careful to dodge their leap attacks, and then head into the door in the ice.
  • Kulag the Fallen can create ice fields, don’t stand in them as they pulse chill and damage. CC him to give you more of a window to attack him.
  • Cross the bridge and open the door by killing the icebrood, then fight Hirvela the Lost who can be dangerous in melee range. You can kite him using the elevation of the room if need be.
  • Take the stairs into the ice where you must light the beacons to defrost the ice wall. Hold out against the ice elementals while using the pillars to avoid their chilling projectiles.
  • Lani Winterfist drops a chain of ice spikes which can knock you down. Keep moving to avoid these while also taking out any icebrood that spawn.
  • Honor’s Voice can put your allies or yourself in an ice block which cannot be stun broken to get out of. Only damage will remove the ice block. Stay near your allies or always place down pulsing damage beneath you.
  • Kodan’s Bane
    • The final boss has a pet which will not respawn if you kill it. It can stun lock you and place vomit on the floor.
    • The boss itself has a lot of health and does a lot of damage with its melee attacks.
    • The birds it summons on you with its warhorn attack won’t do damage if you stand behind line of sight from it.

Explorable Mode

Better rewards are offered in explorable mode, and each path gives an extra bit of liquid gold once per day, so doing more difficult or longer paths may be worth it if it pays more.

Also doing 8 different unique paths will complete the Dungeon Frequenter repeatable achievement to earn a which contains 150 Tales of Dungeon Delving and 5 Gold.

All explorable paths provide 20 Tales of Dungeon Delving after completion, but the first time each day you will get 80 Tales of Dungeon Delving as a bonus, for a total of 100 daily. This currency can be used to redeem other rewards like weapons and armor skins with exotic stats, runes, sigils, and other materials.

Complete map:

Path 1: Butcher

Length: Short
Difficulty: Easy
Reward: 35 Silver

  • Start by selecting Path 1 at Honor’s Claw
  • Take out the ice turrets to open the next door.
  • Icebrood Troll
    • When it leaps into the air, dodge toward it to dodge the projectiles that also come out.
    • Cleanses help to remove fear and weakness
  • Aldus Stormbringer has a group of cultists that you can lure behind a wall to easily take them out before you focus on the boss. He has stacks of protection before you can actually damage him. Use fast hitting attacks to quickly remove the protection and be able to damage him before he regains the stacks again.
  • After defeating him, drop down through the floor that broke open and clear your way or run through to a hallway. This hallway will knock you back when you step in the red circles which create ice explosions. Wait for them to disappear then run through and half way through you can stand to the side where there is a small safe space to wait for the circles to pass. Pull the door chain to get through.
  • Ginva the Butcher
    • Be careful of the whirling axes skill which can deal heavy damage to nearby players.
    • The boss gains boons from the totems, but these totems can respawn fast so it may not be worth investing time to kill them unless you can hit both the boss and the totem at the same time.
    • Protection is generally the highest priority to remove

Additionally, completing the dungeon story mode will unlock a reward track for PvP and World vs World that you can use to gain currency and unlock skins while playing those game modes. However, unlocking a skin through the reward track won’t necessarily unlock it on the Dungeon Merchant.
