WuWa. Wuthering Waves Xiangli Yao Guide Character Build. Electro DPS. Skill Priority.
Xiangli Yao is a 5-star character that wields a Gauntlet and uses Electro as his elemental damage. He is a main DPS character with powerful attacks that can affect the world and how you perceive it.
Pros – Slows down time to make some enemies and combat situations easier to handle.
Cons – Periodically performs aerial attacks during the rotation which can make it harder to reactively dodge.
Team Compositions – Should be used with characters who can buff his Resonance Liberation damage, or with those who use Basic Attacks due to his Outro triggering on Basic Attack hits.
Skills and Playstyle
Basic Attack – Xiangli Yao has a basic attack chain of five consecutive attacks, ending with him shooting a beam out of his palm. Each attack grants some Forte.
Resonance Skill (E) – A quick attack that is low cooldown and grants a high amount of Forte. Always use this off-cooldown. Using one Resonance Skill and a full Basic Attack chain is enough to fill the Forte gauge.
Forte Circuit – The Resonance Skill or Basic Attacks will fill the Forte gauge. When the Forte gauge is full, a secondary Resonance Skill becomes available, independent of the normal one’s cooldown. Use the Resonance Skill to consume all Forte and perform a leaping slash at the target. Always try to follow this up with a Basic Attack to do a high-damage aerial attack.
Resonance Liberation (R) – Deal heavy damage and enter into a state of Intuition. While in his Resonance Liberation state of Intuition, Forte will be organized as five bars instead of one. When it is full you can cast an improved Resonance Skill to deal damage and stop time for enemies in a very large radius. This improved Resonance Skill can be used a total of three times before you leave Intuition state or it times out when the R fully cools down.
There are two combos to get this bar full.
- Resonance Skill (E) + Basic Attack
- Full Basic Attack Chain (five Basic Attacks)
Watch for the palm beam attack to know when the full Basic Attack chain is finished and when your Forte is full. The Resonance Skill with the following Basic Attack is the fastest way to gain Forte, so always use this first; but since it will be on cooldown, you must fill in the gap with a Basic Attack Chain.
Skill Activation Priority
Gather Resonance Energy by performing and repeating this basic rotation
- Resonance Skill (E)
- 5 Basic Attacks
- Forte Resonance Skill (E)
- Basic Attack
When you are close to getting enough Energy to use your Resonance Liberation (R), use any buffs or Echo Skills (Q) to increase the damage of your ultimate, then use it.
Resonance Liberation Rotation
- R > E > Basic Attack > E
- Five Basic Attacks > E
- E > Basic Attack > E
Outro – The next character’s Basic Attacks will trigger a laser beam dealing a large amount of Xiangli Yao’s ATK. This lasts for 8 seconds and can be triggered once every 2 seconds up to 3 times.
Xiangli Yao Build Guide Progression
Ascension Materials
- Hidden Thunder Tacet Core – Defeat Tempest Mephis in Central Plains – Costs Waveplates
- Violet Coral – Pick these around the shores in Wuming Bay and Norfall Barrens or buy at the Shifang Pharmacy
- Whisperin Core – Looted from Humanoid Tacet Discords.
Weapons
- Verity’s Handle (Convene 5-star) – Crit Rate – Increases Elemental damage by 12%. When using Resonance Liberation, gain 48% Resonance Liberation damage for 8 seconds. Using the Resonance Skill will extend this effect for 5 seconds up to 3 times.
- Abyss Surges (Convene 5-star) – ATK – Increases Energy Regen by 13%. Resonance Skill increases Basic Attack damage by 10% when it hits for 8 seconds. Basic Attacks increase Resonance Skill damage by 10% when they hit for 8 seconds.
- Stonard (Insider Podcast Lvl 30 4-star) – Crit Rate – Resonance Liberation damage increased by 18% for 15 seconds when using Resonance Skill.
- Hollow Mirage (Convene 4-star) – ATK – Resonance Liberation grants 3 stacks of Iron Armor which increases ATK and DEF by 3% for each stack. Taking damage loses one stack.
Echo Skill 1 (Q) – Electro – Tempest Mephis – If the second claw attack hits, increase Electro and Heavy Attack damage by 12% for 15 seconds. Deals good damage but the buffs could be better.
Echo Skill 2 (Q) – Lingering Tunes – Mech Abomination – Deal Electro damage to nearby enemies, increase ATK by 12% for 15 seconds, and create an area of effect that explodes after a while scaling with Outro damage. Since Xiangli Yao has a strong Outro, this scales decently, but mostly this is useful because Xiangli Yao has plenty of animations to use, he doesn’t have much time to fit in a long Echo Skill. This one takes up almost no time.
Echo Skill 3 (Q) – Electro – Thundering Mephis – Six attacks and if the final attack hits increase Electro and Resonance Liberation damage by 12% for 15 seconds. Better buffs for Xiangli Yao’s priorities but harder to invest so much time to get the final hit. Use this if your energy regeneration is low and you have more time to cast the entire skill.

Should you try to pull extra sequences for Xiangli Yao?
-The second sequence is a good place to start for those who want to invest in Xiangli Yao, as the damage modifiers it provides are hefty but reliable.
-The third sequence is good, but it becomes even better when combined with the sixth sequence, so you may not want to stop at the third if you go that far.
-The fourth and fifth sequences are more geared towards team play, but since Xiangli Yao is more of a main DPS, these are more impactful to your total team damage than his. Therefore, these sequences are going to provide better results when you have invested into more characters than just Xiangli Yao in the team.
-If you aren’t willing to go all the way to the sixth sequence, stop at two or three.
