Yuanwu Character Guide

WuWa. Wuthering Waves Yuanwu Guide Character Build. Sub DPS. Electro DPS. Skill Priority.

Yuanwu is a 4-star character that wields Gauntlets and uses Electro as his elemental damage. He is a unique Sub DPS or Tank because of his scaling with DEF and improved Stagger effects.

Pros – Provides more Stagger damage to bosses and anti-interruption to teammates. Survivable due to DEF scaling.

Cons – Restricts movement if you want to play around staying in his Thunder Wedge. His team utility comes from niche effects that may not be useful in some situations.

Team Compositions – With many sequences, you can build him as a more survivable DPS that stays on-field for a while. As a Sub DPS, he wants to be with characters that do not need to move much, preferably those with ranged weapons and attacks so they can stand in his Thunder Field. Coordinated Attacks allow him to benefit while off-field.

Skills and Playstyle

Basic/Heavy Attack – The Basic Attack is a quick chain of five attacks and the Heavy Attack is similarly quick. Their normal versions are about the same as each other until they become empowered by the Lightning Infused state.

Resonance Skill (E) – Creates a Thunder Wedge for 12 seconds that will grant Forte gauge over time. It can be recasted whenever to reposition the Wedge. Any ally within the field around the Thunder Wedge will trigger extra Electro Damage as a Coordinated Attack. Yuanwu will also gain extra Forte when hitting enemies inside his Thunder Wedge.

Forte Circuit – When at full Forte, holding the Resonance Skill will destroy the Thunder Wedge and enter him into a Lightning Infused state. During this time, he will have extra resistance to interruption, Basic Attacks will Stagger enemies much faster and have a larger radius, and Heavy Attacks and Dodge Counters will have a faster attack speed and Stagger enemies much faster.

Also while Yuanwu is Lightning Infused, his Heavy Attack or Dodge Counter will cause his next Basic Attack within 3 seconds to deal extra damage. Alternate between Heavy and Basic Attacks during this.

While he cannot gain Forte during Lightning Infused state, you will want to recast the Resonance Skill to put up another Thunder Field.

Resonance Liberation – Performs a powerful punch and grants the Lightning Infused state to all characters on the team for 10 seconds. While many of the effects of the Lightning Infused state only apply to Yuanwu, his allies still gain the anti-interruption buff if swapped to.

This attack will also destroy the Thunder Wedge for extra damage. Recast the Resonance Skill afterwards.

Rotation

Avoid overlapping the Forte E and the R because both will put you in Lightning Infused for 10 seconds. Spread them out to maximize the duration.

  • E > Basic Attacks > Q
  • Forte E > Heavy > 5 Basic > Heavy > 5 Basic
  • R > Heavy > 5 Basic > Heavy > 5 Basic

Outro – Significantly Staggers the target.

Sequence 2 – Intro recovers 15 Resonance Energy.

Sequence 3 – Increases the damage of the Resonance Skill’s triggered attacks by 20% of Yuanwu’s DEF.

Sequence 4 – Resonance Liberation grants a shield equal to 200% of Yuanwu’s DEF for 10 seconds which will persist for whichever character is on-field.

Sequence 5 – While the Resonance Skill is active, Yuanwu’s Resonance Liberation Damage is increased by 50%.

Sequence 6 – All team members within the area of the Resonance Skill will gain 32% DEF.

Should you try to pull extra sequences for Yuanwu?

While many of the sequences increase Yuanwu’s DEF synergies, enabling a more survivable playstyle to work, they don’t change how he functions much. The first and second sequences increase how often he can use his Ultimate because faster attacks mean more Energy Regen. The shield from the fourth sequence can be a life saver, but it only lasts 10 seconds so it may not get value every time it is used. If you get the first two sequences, you’ll really want to go all the way to the fifth to get the full synergy. You may want to go all in or not at all.
