    Obtaining the precursor, Unbound, requires players to complete the three Ad Infinitum I – III collections. The fourth collection, Legendary Backpack: Ad Infinitum, will allow the creation of the legendary Ad Infinitum. These four collections will be primarily focused on the Fractals of the Mists where players will be presented with challenges to complete and items to collect on their journey for the legendary back item.
    Takes 10 days to complete each of the four collections required to craft Ad Infinitum, as you can typically only earn three Fractal Research Pages per day through recommended fractal dailies.
    Sunqua Peak Fractal, Nightmare Fractal and Shattered Observatory Fractal each reward an extra page when completed in Challenge Mode, reducing the minimum time to complete each collection to 5 days.

    Ad Infinitum I: Finite Result – 6AP

    To start this journey you need to go inside the Mistlock Observatory and talk with Kelvei. He will give you the item Theory of the Finite Result to unlock this first collection.

    For this collection you need to collect 11 fractal components, here you can see every item detailed:

    • Defender of Ascalon
      • Sold by BUY-2046 PFR in the Mistlock Observatory for 20 Pristine Fractal Relics.
    • Charr-Nip
      • Sold by BUY-4373 in the Mistlock Observatory for 100 Fractal Relics + 80 Silver.
    • Swampland Challenge Mote
      • Activate the challenge mote, and complete the level 1-20 Swampland Fractal with an 80% reduction to healing.
    • Aquatic Ruin Challenge Mote
      • Activate the challenge mote, and complete the level 1-20 Aquatic Ruins Fractal with an 80% reduction to healing.
    • Jade Maw Timed Mote
      • Beat the Jade Maw in under 5 minutes in the level 20 Solid Ocean Fractal.
    • Ascalonian Fractal Field Research Paper
      • Sold by a vendor in the Urban Battleground Fractal for 1 Fractal Journal. To find the Ascalonian Fractal Field Researcher, complete the boss fight and go through the previously locked gate where the final boss spawned. The NPC will be inside the room.

    NOTE: Takes a minimum of 10 days to complete, as you can only earn a maximum of 3 Fractal Research Pages per day. However if you do the challenge modes for Nightmare, Shattered Observatory and Sunqua Peak Fractals you will earn extra pages.

    • Burning Frozen Core
      • You need to complete the meta-event at Wayfarer Foothills, The Frozen Maw to earn a Gigantic Ice Elemental Core, then interact with the Boiling Hot Magma in the Volcanic Fractal (which will spawn after killing the final boss).
    • Charged Clump of Swamp Moss
      • Defeating The Mossman or the Bloomhunger in the Swampland Fractal will give you a Charged Clump of Swamp Moss so you have to take it to the Specially Charged Energy Storage Tank located in The Opticalium – [&BDUAAAA=] .
    • Prototype Fractal Capacitor
      • Sold by BUY-4373 in the Mistlock Observatory for 1,350 Fractal Relics.
    • Unstable Magically Charged Infusion Sample
      • Charge a +4 Agony Infusion in a Mist Geyser in the Swampland Fractal after defeating Bloomhunger.
    • Aetherblade Recruitment Form
      • Sold by a vendor in the Captain Mai Trin Boss Fractal for 1 Ball of Dark Energy.

    NOTE: You can earn Ball of Dark Energy by using Ascended Salvage Kits and Ascended Salvage Tools:

    • Ascended weapons (high chance)
    • Ascended armor (high chance)
    • Ascended amulets (very low chance)
    • Ascended accessories (very low chance)
    • Ascended back items (very low chance)
    • Ascended breathing apparatus (low chance)

    Once you complete this collection you will get rewarded with Proof: Finite Result which contains the very basic materials to craft the first tier of the back item Finite Result. You can make it with any level 500 crafting discipline.

    NOTE: You don’t need to craft this back item yet to continue with the next collection (but you will need for the final one), the next step will unlock when you talk to Kelvei at Mistlock Observatory and he will give you the Theory of the Upper Bound.

    Ad Infinitum II: Upper Bound – 6AP

    For this collection you need to collect 11 fractal components, here you can see every item detailed:

    • Dredge Spiral Drill
      • Purchased from BUY-2046 PFR in the Mistlock Observatory for 30 Pristine Fractal Relics.
    • Glob of Molten Fire
      • Purchased from BUY-4373 in the Mistlock Observatory for 200 Fractal Relics + 80 Silver.
    • Uncategorized Challenge Mote
      • Activate the challenge mote, and complete the scale 36 or 44 Uncategorized Fractal with an 80% reduction to healing.
    • Snowblind Challenge Mote
      • Activate the challenge mote, and complete the scale 27 Snowblind Fractal with an 80% reduction to healing.
    • Thaumanova Reactor Timed Mote
      • Complete the scale 15 Thaumanova Reactor Fractal in under 20 minutes.
    • Molten Alliance Fractal Field Research Paper
      • Sold by a vendor after completing the Molten Boss Fractal for 1 Fractal Journal.
    • Jade Maw Fang
      • You need to do the meta-event Mordrem Vinewrath in the Silverwastes to obtain a Vinewrath Tendril, then you have to trade it to Frozen Jade Field Researcher at the end of the Solid Ocean Fractal.
    • Pollenated Ice Elemental Core
      • You need to defeat Lornarr Dragonseeker the final boss in the Snowblind Fractal, to obtain a Ice Elemental Core, then you have to take the item to one of the Luminescent Pollen Clouds beneath one of the four outposts during The Breach meta-event in the Silverwastes.
    • Beta Fractal Capacitor (Infused)
      • For this step you need to upgrade the Prototype Fractal Capacitor that you bought on the previous collection from exotic to ascended. To do this you have two Mystic Forge recipes shown below:
      • Then in the Mystic Forge with:
        • 1 Glob of Coagulated Mists Essence
        • 1 Gift of Ascension
        • 250 Glob of Ectoplasm
        • 1 Prototype Fractal Capacitor (Ascended)
      • You will get as result the Beta Fractal Capacitor (Infused).
    • Weak Magically Charged Infusion Sample
      • Charge a +6 Agony Infusion in a Mist Geyser in the Molten Furnace Fractal.
    • Aetherblade Handbook
      • Sold by a vendor in the Captain Mai Trin Boss Fractal for 2 Ball of Dark Energy.

    NOTE: If you previously crafted the first tier of the back item, you can salvage it for 5 Ball of Dark Energy.

    Once you complete this collection you will get rewarded with Proof: Upper Bound which contains the very basic materials to craft the second tier of the back item Upper Bound. You can make it with any level 500 crafting discipline.

    NOTE: You don’t need to craft this back item yet to continue with the next collection (but you will need for the final one), the next step will unlock when you talk to Kelvei at Mistlock Observatory and he will give you the Theory of the Unbound.

    Ad Infinitum III: Unbound – 6AP

    For this collection you need to collect 11 fractal components, here you can see every item detailed:

    • Inquest Dragon Energy Research Cube
      • Purchased from BUY-2046 PFR in the Mistlock Observatory for 40 Pristine Fractal Relics.
    • Essence of Subject 2
      • Purchased from BUY-4373 in the Mistlock Observatory for 400 Fractal Relics + 80 Silver.
    • Volcanic Challenge Mote
      • Activate the challenge mote, and complete the scale 28 Volcanic Fractal with an 80% reduction to healing.
    • Cliffside Challenge Mote
      • Activate the challenge mote, and complete the scale 21 Cliffside Fractal with an 80% reduction to healing.
    • Molten Boss Timed Mote
      • Complete the level 10 Molten Boss Fractal in under 5 minutes after enabling the challenge mote.
    • Thaumanova Fractal Field Research Paper
      • Sold by a vendor in the Thaumanova Reactor Fractal for 1 Fractal Journal
    • Old Tom’s Vital Reading (He’s Dead)
      • You need to interact with Vexa’s Test-Golem Remains, located within Vexa’s Lab jumping puzzle at Fireheart Rise, on the platform southeast of the area. Neither Vexa nor her Golem need to be defeated for this to occur. You will get Vexa’s Golem Diagnostic Reader then with it, you have to analyze the remains of Old Tom at the end of the Uncategorized Fractal.

    • Rabsovich’s Lost Treasure
      • Once you defeat Champion Rabsovich in the Underground Facility Fractal, you will get a Rabsovich’s Locker Key, then with it you have to interact with Rabsovich’s Locker located at the southwest of Dredgehaunt Cliffs in the Dociu Excavation area – [&BFgCAAA=] , see image below.
    • Fractal Capacitor (Infused)
      • For this step you need to upgrade the Beta Fractal Capacitor (Infused) with the following Mystic Forge recipe:
        • 1 Shard of Crystallized Mists Essence
        • 1 Gift of Ascension
        • 250 Glob of Ectoplasm
        • 1 Beta Fractal Capacitor (Infused)
      • You will get as result Fractal Capacitor (Infused).
    • Magically Charged Infusion Sample
      • Charge a +8 Agony Infusion in the Mist Geyser in the Snowblind Fractal.
    • Aetherblade Secret Handshake Tutorial Book
      • Sold by a vendor in the Captain Mai Trin Boss Fractal for 3 Ball of Dark Energy Instead of heading forward to complete the fractal, run all the way back down the ramp and through the aetherblade encampment.

    NOTE: If you previously crafted the second tier of the back item, you can salvage it for 9 Ball of Dark Energy.

    Once you complete this collection you will get rewarded with Proof: Unbound which contains the very basic materials to craft the third tier of the back item Unbound. You can make it with any level 500 crafting discipline.

    NOTE: This time you will need to craft the third tier of the back item, the next step will unlock when you talk to Kelvei at Mistlock Observatory and he will give you the Theory of Ad Infinitum.

    Legendary Backpack: Ad Infinitum – 6AP

    For this collection you need to collect 13 fractal components, here you can see every item detailed:

    • Theory of Ad Infinitum
      • Unlocks automatically by talking with Kelvei after you crafted Unbound.
    • Aetherblade Pirate Eye Patch
      • Purchased from BUY-2046 PFR in the Mistlock Observatory for 50 Pristine Fractal Relics.
    • Aetherblade Airship Steering Wheel
      • Purchased from BUY-4373 in the Mistlock Observatory for 600 Fractal Relics + 80 Silver.
    • Underground Facility Challenge Mote
      • Activate the challenge mote, and complete the level 53 Underground Facility Fractal with an 80% reduction to healing.
    • Aetherblade Challenge Mote
      • Activate the challenge mote, and complete the level 65 Aetherblade Fractal with an 80% reduction to healing.
    • Mai Trin Timed Mote
      • Complete the level 95 Captain Mai Trin Boss Fractal in under 25 minutes.
    • Aetherblade Fractal Field Research Paper
      • Sold by a vendor in the Captain Mai Trin Boss Fractal for 1 Fractal Journal.
    • Jungle Wurm Omelet (Mossman Style)
      • You need to defeat the Greater Nightmare Vine inside the Twilight Arbor dungeon to obtain a Jungle Wurm Egg. Then you have to bring it to the Mossman’s hut inside the Swampland Fractal. You can access the Mossman’s hut after defeating Bloomhunger using the tunnel in the boss room.
    • Charged Archdiviner’s Mallet
      • You need to defeat the Legendary Archdiviner in the Cliffside Fractal to obtain Archdiviner’s Mallet, then with it you have to jump into the middle of the exploded Thaumanova Reactor in Metrica Province to charge it. To gain access to this area you need to defeat the world boss Fire Elemental, and after his death, run towards the console in the middle of the reactor and you will need a Matrix Cube Key to open it.
      • The key spawns in random locations on the ground and will always be hidden, either obscured or covered. It will be topped with small green flames, although it can appear as a small lumpy rock or as a small obelisk. It looks similar to the chaos shards in the area, but smaller. The key will change locations or be unavailable at times. For instance, you may have to search the same set of bushes in the earth area repeatedly until you find the key. The key has no name but you will get an interact prompt when close to it. However if some other player have the key, they can open the area for everybody else.
    • Explosive Magically Charged Infusion Sample
      • Charge a +10 Agony Infusion in the Mist Geyser in the Cliffside Fractal. Go through the gate to the right when entering the final boss platform. The gate opens after defeating the boss.
    • Aetherblade Diploma
      • Sold by a vendor in the Captain Mai Trin Boss Fractal for 3 Ball of Dark Energy
    • Lessons in Arbology
      • After defeating Captain Ashym, take a Gift of Wood to the Ascalonian woodcutter, located inside the building that opens in the Urban Battleground Fractal.
      • You can buy the recipe for the gift at Miyani near the Mystic Forge.
    • Lessons in Metallurgy
      • Take a Gift of Metal to the dredge weaponsmith’s workbench located inside the Molten Furnace Fractal.
      • You can buy the recipe for the gift at Miyani near the Mystic Forge.

    Once you complete this collection you will be rewarded with Gift of Infinity which will allow you to craft the final tier and Legendary back item.

    The final Mystic Forge recipe for Ad Infinitum is:

    • Unbound
    • Gift of Infinity
    • Gift of Fortune
    • Gift of Ascension

      “You don’t need to craft this back item yet to continue with the next collection” but in the end you need to craft each back item to salvage it to get the item for the third tier back item…

      you should really add a note to keep the “Prototype Fractal Capacitor” you buy in step one… cause unlike every other item you actually need it at the end of step 2. 1350 relics wasted.
