WvW Legendary Armor Guide

GW2. A complete guide on how to get your Legendary Armor from World vs World. WvW 2021.

Getting Started

In this guide I will cover everything you need to know and the process to make a full legendary armor set from World vs World. This method may not be as interesting as other options for players who play other game modes more often, but if you can spare the time to make progress towards the weekly cap of WvW Skirmish Claim Ticket it is rather simple. Also you can combine different methods of obtaining legendary armor if you want to mix up playing some Raids, some PvP, and some WvW. So even if you don’t want to invest enough to get full WvW armor, its basically the same destination with a different journey.

However, WvW Legendary Armor, like PvP Legendary Armor, does not have a unique skin. Only the version obtained from Raids will have the morphing combat skins, but if you love theorycrafting and having options to adapt, the convenience of legendary armor infinite stat and upgrade swapping functionality is there.

Be aware that due to time-gated limitations getting a full set of legendary armor from WvW can take 22 weeks. This is because you need a total of 7,880 WvW Skirmish Claim Ticket and you can earn only a maximum of 365 per week. But as I said, you can lower the time it takes to get a full set of legendary armor by mixing in different game modes.

I will organize this guide into 4 steps, one for each major gift you will at the end place in the Mystic Forge. At first I will detail all the account bound or time-gated requirements that you will need eventually so you can be prepared and optimize your journey to be as efficient as possible.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The process described on this guide (Step 1 to 4) is to make ONE piece of the armor set, you will need to repeat the process a total of SIX times for each piece.

Account Bound Requirements

Before starting the process to make your legendary armor set, you need to know which things that you can’t buy with gold and how to optimize your time to avoid coming up short when you think you are ready to finish it.

NOTE: The quantity of each item listed here correspond to the amount needed for all SIX pieces of armor.

  • WvW Skirmish Claim Tickets

As mentioned before, these tickets are the time-gated component for the legendary armor. A total of 7,880 tickets are needed and by the weekly cap of 365, it will take 22 weeks. You have to complete the Diamond chest of the Skirmish Reward Track (Pips rewards) to earn the maximum of 365 weekly. This is earned by keeping your participation in WvW over time.

Because the Skirmish Tickets will take the majority of the time required to getting legendary armor from WvW, it’s best that you get settled in and understand the game mode to enjoy it. Some people will do the very minimum to keep their participation and then end up having a bad impression of WvW. Don’t expect this to be easy to do if you’re only motivated by the reward. However, some people end up enjoying WvW because they got into it for the reward and ended up staying. They get tickets unintentionally because they play for fun and can build legendaries whenever they want.

  • Triumphant Hero’s armor

The precursor armor piece (the ascended that can be upgraded to legendary) will be only available to buy once you unlocked the exotic version first. To do this for first time, you have to unlock the exotic piece by piece from the Triumphant Armor Reward Track. In other words, you have to complete the reward track SIX times if you want to make every piece of legendary armor.

  • Gift of Battle

Each piece will need one Gift of Battle, and you can only obtain this from the Gift of Battle Reward Track. In other words you will need to complete the track a total of SIX times to get every piece.

  • Mystic Clover

A total of 90 Mystic Clover are needed, each piece requires 15. You can obtain these clovers from the following sources:

  • Mystic Clover
    • Mystic Forge (30% chance approx)

Next with all these gifts crafted, you have to combine them in the Mystic Forge into two:

  • Gift of Condensed Might
    • Gift of Fangs
    • Gift of Scales
    • Gift of Claws
    • Gift of Bones
  • Gift of Condensed Magic
    • Gift of Blood
    • Gift of Venom
    • Gift of Totems
    • Gift of Dust

Finally you have to combine again in the Mystic Forge these 2 gifts recently created with Mystic Clovers and a Gift of Battle

  • Gift of War Prosperity
    • Gift of Condensed Might
    • Gift of Condensed Magic
    • Gift of Battle
    • 15 Mystic Clover

Step 2: Gift of War Prowess

Gift of War Prowess is the time-gated gift, for this you will need to use 1,095 WvW Skirmish Claim Ticket. The process to make this gift is easy enough, simply put in the Mystic Forge the following items:

  • Gift of War Prowess
    • Legendary War Insight
      • Purchased from Legendary Commander War Razor in WvW for 1095 WvW Skirmish Claim Ticket
    • Eldritch Scroll
      • Purchased from Miyani or any Mystic Forge Attendant for 50 Spirit Shards
    • 50 Obsidian Shard
      • Purchased for or converted from various currencies
      • Acquired from PvP Reward Tracks and WvW Reward Tracks
      • Acquired from Chest of Legendary Crafting Materials login reward (Day 28)
    • Cube of Stabilized Dark Energy (Requires level 500 crafting discipline)
      • Ball of Dark Energy (Chance from Ascended gear salvaging)
      • 75 Stabilizing Matrix

Step 3: Gift of War Dedication

Gift of War Dedication is a gift made with WvW currency. Put in the Mystic Forge the following items:

  • Gift of War Dedication
    • Certificate of Honor
      • Purchased from Legendary Commander War Razor in WvW for 500 Badge of Honor
    • Glob of Condensed Spirit Energy
      • Purchased from Legendary Commander War Razor in WvW for 100 Spirit Shards
    • Certificate of Heroics
      • Purchased from Legendary Commander War Razor in WvW for 250 Testimony of Heroics
    • 250 Memory of Battle
      • From WvW reward tracks or purchased from Trading Post

Step 4: Precursor and Forge

As mentioned in the beginning, the precursor is an ascended piece of Triumphant Hero’s armor. You can buy each piece from the Skirmish Supervisor, this will cost WvW Skirmish Claim Ticket:

  • Helmet – 175 Tickets
  • Shoulder – 175 Tickets
  • Coat – 350 Tickets
  • Gloves – 175 Tickets
  • Pants – 250 Tickets
  • Boots – 175 Tickets

To be able to buy them, you need to unlock previously the exotic Triumphant armor from the reward track.

Once you are able to buy each piece, you will notice the cost includes 2 Gold, 250 Memory of Battle and 3 or 4 Grandmaster Marks.

These marks can be obtained from Box of Grandmaster Marks, which you can buy in the Skirmish Supervisor for 10 Grandmaster Mark Shard. You can earn only 3 shards each week from the Bronze, Silver, and Gold chest on the Skirmish Reward Track (Pips rewards).

The other way to obtain these Grandmaster Marks, is through crafting, you will need to buy the recipes to unlock them and a level 500 crafting discipline to make them.

NOTE: It is recommended that you do not attempt to stat change your precursor item with the standard stat swap recipe in the Mystic Forge. While you will be provided with an item with the desired stats, it will have been replaced with a generic ascended item that cannot be used as a legendary precursor.

NOTE: It takes 1,310 tickets in total to obtain a full ascended set of Triumphant Hero’s armor. In total it takes approximately 4 weeks (at 365 tickets per week).

Mistforged Alternative

As alternative you can also use the Mistforged Triumphant Hero’s armor, which is a version visually similar but with a blue glowing animation

To be able to buy these pieces of armor, you have to previously unlock the ascended (or exotic) Triumphant Hero’s armor and a minimum of WvW Rank 500.

NOTE: It takes 2,620 tickets to obtain an ascended set of Mistforged Triumphant Hero’s armor (700 for the chest, 520 for leggings, and 350 each for boots, gloves, headgear, and shoulders. This is in addition to the required 1,310 tickets for the Triumphant Hero’s skin to unlock it (350 for the chest, 260 for leggings, and 175 each for boots, gloves, headgear, and shoulders). In total it takes approximately 11 weeks (at 365 tickets per week) to obtain the full set.

But of course, one of the main appeals of the Mistforged version, is the visual effect of the chest piece when wielded (the tentacles effect).

Forge Time

Once you have the piece that you want to upgrade, it’s time to use the Mystic Forge again, and this is the final combination to make it legendary:

  • Gift of War Prosperity
  • Gift of War Prowess
  • Gift of War Dedication
  • Ascended Triumphant Hero’s armor piece

Congratulations, now you have a Legendary Armor piece.

  1. Hnnnnngggg, now I’m kinda tempted to wait til rank 500 and get the Mistforged set! I knew about the blue glow, but the tentacly bits, EEEEEEEEEEEE! 😀 I got all the ascended pieces, just been waiting to get enough skirmish tickets. SO TEMPTINGGGGGG!!!!

    • I did my legendary armor with the normal ascended set and then after I bought only the mistforged chest piece just for the skin lol

  2. Hey, i finally have the required materials and i was wondering if i can craft the mistforged chest and combine it with the rest normal legendary pieces?

    • Yes, you can upgrade the mistforged into legendary. You can also upgrade the common one and then reskin it with the mistforged, is the same, both works.

  3. Thank you for the reply. To be honest i wanted to save some tickets/time by combining only the chestpiece with the tentacle effects(sublime) with the other wvw normal legendary pieces(Triumphant). i am not sure if that will end up looking good but ill dye it.

  4. Can you use fashion and see the tentacle effect? Or does it only show while using armor

  5. The tentacle effect only shows if you don’t transmute the mistforged coat into something else.

  6. Question if you don’t mind 🙂

Is the only different in the Mistforged set with the chest piece or do all pieces glow?

Debating on doing just the chest piece as the Mistforged.

    • Yes all pieces have a glow, but the chest piece is the one with the “tentacles” called “sublime mistforged”

  7. If you go the route of the Triumphant Hero’s armor, can you upgrade the armor to the Mistforged version later or will you have to recraft the Legendary? This is so I don’t have to fork over double the tickets right now and can make other armor sets first. So If I make the mistforged later when I have more tickets will the upgrade be applied to the Legendary already made or just out of luck?

    • You can make the legendary armor with the Triumphant Hero’s armor, and later you can unlock the Mistforged pieces and just use transmutation charges on the legendary armor, its simply skins

  8. Hey Jen, a quick update: The grandmaster mark shards are now also dropping for successful attack or defense of SMC and T3 keeps and towers, depending on your participation level. You can pull 10+ shards on a good day!
